Dr. Steve Portenga is a Psychologist with experience in forensic and neuropsychology. He is licensed in the state of Colorado. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with his Ph.D. in 2005. Throughout his career he has focused his work on the neuropsychological aspects of human performance and functioning. His interests have ranged from optimal human performance under pressure to performance deficits in independent decision making.

Dr. Portenga has conducted over 2,000 psychological assessments that include questions related to capacity. He has conducted evaluations in the following areas: general psychology, neuropsychology, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, substance abuse.

Expert Witness

Dr. Portenga has been qualified as an expert in psychology, forensic psychology, competency evaluations, testamentary capacity, psychosis; guardianship, and conservatorship.

Professional Experience

Dr. Portenga has worked as a VA psychological forensic evaluator of military PTSD and trauma claims. He has experience working as a full-time graduate professor, teaching classes on psychological assessment, clinical interviewing & diagnosis, professional practice & ethics, neuropsychology & psychophysiology. He has presented and written professionally about clinical assessment and neuropsychology. He has presented and published scholarly articles in law reviews on undue influence and civil theft. He is a member of The American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychology-Law Society (AP-LS).
